China suspends ban for sale of international video game consoles

China's Condition Authorities said it has momentarily raised a ban on selling international games consoles, providing the way for firms like Sony Corp, Microsoft Corp and Nintendo Co Ltd to enter a nearly $14 big market.

The revocation of the 14-year-old ban allows "foreign-invested enterprises" to make wii within Shanghai's free trade area and sell them in China after examination by social divisions, the govt said in a declaration published on its website on Monday.

China prohibited game playing systems in 2000, stating their negative effect on the mental health of its youngsters. Consoles, however, have lengthy been available at the same time unlawfully, but online PC activity playing remains more well-known, with Internet bars often populated with series upon series of customers.

The Condition Authorities did not say how lengthy the revocation would last. It also did not specify the requirements for a foreign-invested enterprise.

Government authorities were not instantly available to explain the judgment.

Nintendo, which makes the Wii system, told Reuters the judgment changed little from when China's govt had said in Sept last season that it planned to lift the ban.

"This just means one step of the process has been taken," said Yasuhiro Minagawa, The Japan-based advertising manager.

Sony and Microsoft company, makers of the worldwide well-known PlayStation and Movie activities consoles, were not instantly available to opinion. In Sept, Sony models had said it was looking at coming into the China market with "great interest".

China's video gaming market increased 38 % from 2012 to reach 83.17 billion dollars yuan ($13.74 billion) in 2013, according to information released at the yearly China games market meeting in Dec.

The ban on games consoles has left PC games with almost two-thirds of the market. Internet browser activity playing included 15.4 % and mobile game playing was 13.5 %, the information revealed.

Games games consoles have been made in China for trade for many years, with Foxconn, the trading name of Hon Hai Perfection Industry Co, making the devices for Sony models, Manufacturers and Microsoft company.
