Amazon to buy TenMarks in Kindle education push

Amazon.com said Friday that it decided to buy knowledge technology organization TenMarks, a sign the biggest Internet store is growing further into academic institutions.

TenMarks offers customized on the internet mathematical training for K-12 learners.

Dave Lifeless, head of Amazon's Amazon kindle product, e-reader and e-book business, said the organization plans to develop academic material and programs with TenMark.

Amazon has made a big force into academic institutions recently, coming into a market that has been particularly successful for competing Apple and its iPad product.

Amazon has been examining Kindles with thousands of K-12 academic institutions, promoting the gadgets at large discount rates and helping them purchase and spread e-books to learners. Last year, the organization combined out Whispercast, a support that lets academic institutions manage fleets of Amazon kindle gadgets from one on the internet location.

Amazon's knowledge force is part of a wider effort by the organization to get Kindles into as many hands as possible. The organization often offers the gadgets at cost and wishes to earn money promoting e-books and other material such as programs, games, music and video through the gadgets.

TenMarks has a so-called freemium model where instructors can sign-up and access the organization's support for free and then opt in for paid top quality features if they want to, co-founder Rohit Agarwal described.

"Going forward, we believe Amazon and TenMarks will create significant enhancements in the K-12 field," he included in a declaration.

Terms of the TenMarks purchase were not revealed. Subject to various ending conditions, the purchase is predicted to close in it all one fourth of 2013, Amazon included.
